DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE HISTORY AND CULTURE
Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese History (Ref. 250430006)
The Department of Chinese History and Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities. Its mission is to offer high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that provide interdisciplinary training in the study of Chinese history and culture. Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Chinese History and Culture, two minor degree programmes in Chinese History and Culture and History of Science and Technology in China, respectively, and university-wide general education courses. Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as
General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) engage in programme/curriculum design and development, consultancy projects and other scholarly activities that help promote the Department’s interest;
(c) provide quality teaching at the undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(d) provide administrative support for academic and departmental affairs; and
(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a PhD degree in a related discipline;
(b) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
(c) relevant post-qualification teaching and research experience and an excellent record of relevant academic achievements; and
(d) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
Applicants for appointment at Professor or Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant research achievement. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor. The duties and requirements would be in line with the appointed grade.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
