The Professional Learning Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a culture of continuous professional development within the school. Reporting to the Director of Curricular Programs, this position involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including the Professional Learning Team (PLT), divisional leadership teams and Associate Head of School (AHOS), to design and implement a cohesive yearlong professional learning calendar that aligns with the school’s Strategic Plan. The coordinator will manage logistics for professional learning events, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and relevance, while also supporting the development of both internal and external learning opportunities.
In addition to event management, the Professional Learning Coordinator will take a data-informed approach to evaluate the effectiveness of professional development initiatives. This includes collecting and analyzing feedback to identify strengths and areas for growth, as well as maintaining the Professional Learning Handbook and the Employee Wellness Hub. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a background in curriculum development, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment that supports both faculty and student success.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:-
Learning Design:
● Collaborate with the Professional Learning Team, division leaders and AHOS on the development and design of the yearlong internal professional learning calendar (PD days & ERDs) as a coherent sequence, in alignment with the school’s Strategic Plan;
● Support the design of outside participants and the large internal professional learning events, including:
○ Consultant schedules and conference agendas (the flow of each day);
○ The planning for the annual signature HKIS conferences (e.g., the Literacy Institute; the Early Childhood conference; the GIFTS conference), and any additional large conferences;
○ Consultant facilitation of workshops;
○ Asynchronous learning (e.g., HKIS Employee Wellness Online Hub; the HKIS Professional Learning Center)
● Partner with the curriculum office and other stakeholders in ensuring that learning vehicles/events align with the Learning Forward Professional Learning standards, the HKIS Learning Principles and Practices, and other HKIS anchor curriculum documents.
● Ensure the Professional Learning Handbook is relevant and up to date, and reflects current best proactive in the allocation of professional development funds to individual faculty.
● Oversee and facilitate the process for the application and allocation of professional development funds to include data dashboards, online application and approval processes, and analysis of data to inform fund allocation.
Event Management:
● Support the planning and coordination of both outside participant and internal professional learning events, including but not limited to, an oversight of:
○ Alignment to the HKIS event management process (e.g., consultant details & event registration forms);
○ Advertising for all external events;
○ Contracts for consultants
● Be the key point person for all external Professional Learning school events (including weekends);
● Designing and streamlining the event management tools to ensure the school has the systems and processes in place to host key events;
● Liaise with Advancement on large scale community events,
● Provide support to external third party providers who may require access to HKIS facilities.
● Oversight of parent education events (e.g., Records, Summaries, Processes)
Publicity and alignment to the HKIS Philosophy of Education:
● Partner with the Director of Curriculum and the Communications Office to:
○ Develop the advertising materials and the branding of each event;
○ Ensure events are appropriately advertised on the HKIS digital platforms and are aligned with the HKIS philosophy of education;
• Partner with the Curriculum Office in developing, updating, and sustaining the HKIS PL pages on the school website
Data-Informed Approach:
● Collaborate with the Curriculum Office to develop processes to collect and examine event data (quantitative and qualitative) to identify areas of strength and areas for growth;
● As part of data collection:
○ Collate and synthesize reflections on deliverables from the events, providing the reports at the conclusion of all events, as well as an end-of-year summary;
○ Ensure rotating presence at faculty meetings to gather on-the-ground qualitative data from all stakeholders;
● Partner with the Curriculum Office in a data-informed design approach for all PL events, both internal (e.g., PD days, and ERDs) and external (e.g., signature events);
● Supports the Director of Curricular Programs in managing the Professional Learning budget for key events.
● Develop data systems to analyze the impact of professional development on learning outcomes.
● Analyze data to inform the allocation of professional development funds in relation to the Professional Learning fund criteria.
Employee Wellness:
● Collaborate with SW Health and Wellbeing Coordinator and AHOS to develop, implement and update Employee Wellness Hub (online).
● Collaborate with SW Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to create structures and systems that promote employee wellness within each division and throughout the school.
● Collaborate with the Human Resource Director to develop and align HKIS’ onboarding information for new hires into the HKIS Employee Wellness Hub.
● Build community partnerships, including sustainable systems, structures and initiatives, that promote employee wellness.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:-
Education:
● A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education
Experience:
● At least 5 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher;
● Proven experience in curriculum development and leadership;
● Demonstrated experience with the Understanding by Design framework, standards-based teaching and learning, action research, and instructional improvement;
● Demonstrated experience in designing workshops, both synchronous and asynchronous, for adult learners (both small and large groups);
● Demonstrated experience with event management;
● Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with the American educational system are preferred.
Required Skills:
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
● Ability to work under deadline pressure;
● Excellent command of the English Language, and demonstrated ability to construct summary reports;
● Familiarity with O365, Google, Excel, Canva, and FinalSite is an advantage.
