West Island School is currently seeking to appoint a Teacher of English with potential for MYP English Coordinator TLR3 to start in August 2025 on a full-time, 2-year renewable contract by mutual agreement.
Key Responsibilities
Teacher of English Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and effective English lessons across Years 7-13, including iGCSE and IB Standard and Higher Level.
- Collaborate with the Head of English and a team of 12 English teachers to develop innovative teaching units.
- Utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement.
Additional responsibilities for MYP English Coordinator
- Lead the implementation of the MYP English curriculum, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections and inclusive instructional practices to ensure student progress.
- Support faculty members to promote continuous improvement, including staff induction, performance management, and targeted training.
- Oversee assessment practices and student progress, using data to identify improvement areas and implement necessary changes.
- Collaborate with MYP leaders to design enriching interdisciplinary learning experiences that engage students.
- Maintain clear communication with MYP teachers and parents, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
Pastoral Care
- Serve as a tutor for a group of approximately 15 students, supporting their holistic development through pastoral work.
Extra-Curricular Contributions
- Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities, either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.

Educational Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in English with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent.
- Experience teaching English across age and ability range.
- Proven track record as an excellent classroom teacher, with experience in global citizenship and service-oriented learning.
- For TLR role, experience which demonstrates the ability to inspire and manage a team effectively.

- A proactive, adaptable, and passionate team player.
- Commitment to inclusion and fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Proven experience leading or contributing to extra-curricular programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in developing curriculum and pedagogy.
- Experience in mentoring peers and providing leadership in educational practices.
