Research Assistant Professor in Chinese Historical Textiles (Ref. 250820004)

Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research into historical textiles leading to publications in refereed journals, a monograph placed with a prestigious publisher, or a body of design work whose outputs contribute to the knowledge and teaching of the textile/fashion design disciplines;
(b) collaborate with the Hong Kong Palace Museum and undertake research or other collaborative activities relevant to historical textiles;
(c) disseminate research findings through educational activities, such as presentations and exhibitions;
(d) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; and
(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of Faculty and the Centre Director or their delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a PhD degree in a related discipline;
(b) preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
(c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;
(d) be familiar with different textile structures and the methodologies and sources of examining historical textiles; and
(e) be highly proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese, both modern and literary.
Preference will be given to those with experience in examining textiles from imperial China.
Applicants are required to submit (a) a letter of application declaring a focus area of expertise; (b) an updated curriculum vitae; and (c) a one-page statement of research explaining specially how to collaborate with other disciplines.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is for two years initially, with possibility of extension.
